What does the project involve?

The project involves laying approximately 2.4km of new water main from an existing main in land adjacent to the Telegraph Track in Sutton, and connecting it to an existing main within the grounds of Langley Park Reservoir (The Crossways Road). Once completed the new main will connect How Green and Langley Park. This will allow water from both our treatment works in Woodmansterne and Kenley to support the Cheam area.

To prepare for starting on site, for the past few months we have been making sure that we are familiar with the ground conditions and local environment. You may have seen our teams digging small holes in the road along the proposed route. We have been taking soil samples and finding out what is happening underground; for example, what other utility service pipes are already in place.

What will be the impact on passing traffic?

We have been liaising closely with the London Borough of Sutton regarding the impact that this major scheme will have on the local road network. Approximately half of the scheme is cross-country and half is on roads. Although some road closures will be needed, we are planning the route in order to minimise the impact on road areas and will ensure all diversion routes are kept as short as possible.

Temporary traffic management will be put in place to keep road users and our teams safe during construction. We will keep those directly affected updated and put information on our website.

Will water supplies be turned off?

There will be no impact on your water supply during the construction phase. However, we may have to temporarily interrupt your supply for a short time while we connect our new pipe to the local existing water network. If this is the case, we will provide advance warning in writing.

When will we be carrying out the work?

We are starting work in Woodmansterne Road at the beginning of November 2021. The table below shows how long we expect to be working in each area. We aim to have the scheme completed by mid May 2022.

Who can I contact if I have any queries about the scheme?

Please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Service Operations team on 01737 772000 Option 2 if you have any questions or, alternatively email: CustomerServicesOPS@seswater.co.uk

You can also follow us on Twitter @SESWater and Facebook @SESWaterOfficial for updates about the scheme.

What does this mean for businesses, schools and organisations in the area?

We understand the work we carry out on our water mains can cause disruption and we want to work closely with local businesses, schools and other organisations to help ease any impact.

We would encourage organisations to contact us on organisations@seswater.co.uk so we can:

    • Work closely to plan the specific timing, location and duration of works in the area
    • Work together to ensure deliveries can get through and customers can still access any shops, restaurants and businesses
    • Provide extra signage to ensure everyone knows it is “business as usual”
    • Share information on the scheme to be circulated to residents, customers, employees, etc.

Where our work leads to unavoidable disruption to the usual operation of businesses, and in particular where there is clear evidence that our work has had an impact on the profits, we will pay compensation for that loss. Please visit our website for more information about our policy for loss of business earnings.
