Before we can fit your new water meter, we'll need to carry out a survey to identify the best place for it to go. In the majority of cases, this can be carried out without you needing to be at home.

Often, we're able to install a meter in the pavement at the boundary of your property. It could also be put in the footpath or driveway outside your home, or in the garden. Of course, we'll fully reinstate anywhere we need to dig up in order to fit the meter.

We'll contact you ahead of your meter being put

We'll contact you ahead of your meter being put in, so you know when we'll be coming to complete the work. Typically, you will not need to be in when we install your meter, but we'll let you know if you do need to be around, so we can then arrange an appointment.

Meter installations inside your property

In some instances, we may have to install your meter inside your property - for example, if you live in a flat, or in a property that shares its water supply pipe with another home or other building. Click here to find out more.

Smart meters

The new meters we will be installing are Elster V210 water meters. These are not classed as 'smart', and will not collect and send usage data on a continuous basis. We will only record your usage when we visit to read the meter. Please click here for more information.

Preventing bogus callers

Sadly, more than half the ‘bogus caller’ or ‘doorstep’ crimes in the UK are committed by criminals pretending to be from a water company, or from the 'water board' - which hasn’t existed for more than 30 years! So, it’s important to know what you can do to check that callers are genuine before you let them in. For more details, please click here.

Remember, if you have any queries or concerns about your meter survey or installation, you can call us on tel. 01737 919485, or send us an email to metering@seswater.co.uk.
